The Brady Family
Our Brady family can be traced back to William Brady who was born July 2, 1785 in New Jersey. He married Sarah Thurston on March 17, 1808 in Sunbury, Northumberland County, PA. There is conflicting information regarding the parents of William. The most convincing records that I have seen point to John(e) and Mary Brady, residents of Northumberland County in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Letters of administration on the estate of a John Brady were granted to Mary Brady and
Walter Brady (eldest son) in 1802.
Records show that William and Sarah Brady, and Mary Brady the mother, moved to Franklin County, IN. They are buried in Bethlehem Church Baptist Society Cemetery there. William's brother Joseph and his wife Sarah (Shipman) also moved to and died in Franklin County. They are buried just across the Indiana/Ohio border in Indian Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Butler County, OH.
One of William and Sarah Brady's children, John Patton Brady, was born in Northumberland County PA. He married Eleanor (aka Ellen) Nutt in Union County IN, and they had several children including Jane "Jennie" Brady. Jennie, who married John Stout, lived to be almost 94 years old. She was a prolific writer of poems and kept diaries for several years. Jennie's daughter Indiana "India" Stout married Perry Elwell.
