John W Elwell, Educator (1892-1980)

Our family's most recent Elwell on the male side is John William Elwell, who devoted his professional life to the education of elementary, junior high and high school students.  At the urging of his children John Elwell was persuaded to write his memoirs.  He was about 80 years of age in 1973 when he wrote the following.

When John Elwell retired in 1963 from Wilson Junior High School, where he had been principal for many years, a special tribute was put together by his son-in-law Ranald West, husband of Mary Elwell West.  It followed the format of that era's popular TV show "This Is Your Life", which was hosted by Ralph Edwards.  A transcription of the original script is presented below.
